A Pony Express and Overland Stage Station was built in 1860 and by 1862 J.J. Cushman decided to build a large ranch which led to nearly 3,000 acres of alfalfa being harvested. Soon other ranchers and farmers came to the area thus the town begin to build up until 1868 Stillwater obtained the county seat. Many of the farmers dug irrigation ditches and canals to divert the water from the Stillwater Marsh to their farms which led to the ancient Cattail Eater Tribe being forced off their lands and also taking away their water rights in an region of Nevada that the oldest mummy in North America was found thus some including myself feel the land in Stillwater is cursed. The town had a post office, blacksmith shop, school, stores, saloons, hotel, pool, theater, hay yard, ice house, restaurants, courthouse and multiple ranches. Over the years grasshoppers, drought, floods, extreme winters and epidemics struck this little community today leaving behind many abandoned pioneer ranches which are left to the elements and the ghost that haunt them. Not much remains of Old Stillwater but I will take you on a journey to explore some abandoned farms, a historic cemetery in Stillwater, outbuildings, homesteads and remnants of downtown which once as a bustling little community. The pioneers named this place Stillwater when stagnant water surrounded the station and since the 1860's the name kind of stuck. Today Fallon one of Nevada's largest cities has kind of consumed Stillwater but if you look hard enough you will still find remnants of one of Nevada's oldest ranching towns which supplied the miners of the Comstock Lode with food for the miners in Virginia City Nevada. During the beginning of the exploration your going to get to hear some creepy music playing on an abandoned ranch with that being said Stillwater is a creepy ranching town in the middle of no mans land. I apologize that this film is not the greatest my cam had some major issues apparently getting sand inside the lens so I was having a hard time with the zoom, focus and was kind of messing with it while filming this.
