Born on April 21, 1925, Solomon Perel, a jew, enjoyed an idyllic childhood in Germany.
Following the rise of the Nazi`s in 1933, him and his family fled to Poland to escape persecution.
Later, Solomon Perel and several other refugees were captured by German soldiers. When asked if he was Jewish, Perel denied it — and his life as an ethnic German Nazi began. His family as he later discovered died in the holocaust.
From that moment in 1941, Solomon Perel became Josef Perjell. He briefly worked as a translator for the unit that had captured him — and even participated in an interrogation of Joseph Stalin’s son Yakov Dzhugashvili — before his impressed superiors sent him to join the Hitler Youth.
He admitted at one point he was so integrated into the Nazis that he even wanted a German victory.
There, he remained until he was liberated at the end of the war by the Allies.
A traitor or survivor, the answer lies in what you would do in such circumstances.
