The Antwerp diamond heist is one of history's most audacious and valuable robberies between the 15th and 16th of February 2003. The mastermind, Leonardo Notarbartolo, posed as an Italian diamond merchant, gaining access to the building.
The premises were secretly surveilled for 18 months using hidden cameras before the group responsible bypassed vault security, protected by various security mechanisms, including a lock with 100 million possible combinations, infrared heat detectors, seismic sensors, Doppler radar, and a magnetic field.
The thieves escaped with over $100 million worth of valuables.
This daring heist remains mysterious, leaving investigators puzzled about how the thieves breached the formidable security systems and escaped with their glittering loot. Although there were arrests, most of the diamonds have never been recovered.
