Eric Stanley Lock As a member of 41 Squadron, Lock engaged in a daring dogfight over the Dover area in September 1940. He fearlessly took on three Heinkel He 111s of the Luftwaffe, successfully shooting one down into the sea.
Undeterred, Lock immediately attacked another German aircraft, displaying cool determination and remarkable skill. His actions led to the destruction of the second enemy plane.
In October 1940, Lock was awarded a Bar to the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) for his bravery. The citation highlighted his courage in the face of heavy odds and the impressive feat of destroying fifteen enemy aircraft within nineteen days.
Officially, he was credited with 21 enemy aircraft shot down during the Battle of Britain, including 18 Messerschmitt Bf 109s.
On August 3, 1941, during a mission near Boulogne, France, his Supermarine Spitfire was damaged by ground fire.
Despite crash-landing in the English Channel, Lock was never seen again, and his fate remains a mystery to this day.
