The story is about a salesman who sells fax machines, a dying industry but pays well. He travels with Darren, his senior, who does the commercials while he does the tech demos. They are usually London bound and he picks Darren up from his house. Presentation and punctuality are the two most essential aspects of salesmanship for him. One day, they get caught in traffic and are late for their meeting. They finally arrive and park beside an old Lime-Green Beetle, and the salesman realizes he forgot to wear his tie, a crucial part of his presentation. However, they proceed to the reception area where they meet an older woman who invites them to take a seat and wait for her husband. Darren is visibly sick and sweating profusely due to new medication, and the salesman worries about his well-being. Ted, an old man, enters the room, and they begin the sales meeting.

a man and a woman attending a funeral where they see Darren, their colleague, who has had a heart attack before. The woman is worried about Darren carrying a coffin, as he is not supposed to lift heavy things due to his health, but he insists on doing it. The woman is anxious about how she will explain this to their manager if anything goes wrong. As the funeral progresses, they see Ted and Elsa, whom they know is not supposed to be there. They worry that if Ted and Elsa complain, they could lose their jobs. The woman is anxious, but Darren remains calm. As they sing the hymn, the woman feels a sense of spirituality she hasn't felt since childhood and feels welcomed even though she is not meant to be there. Ted gives a speech about his son, who he describes as a good and fair man. The story ends with the woman feeling grateful for the experience, despite her worries.
