Our journey begins driving between the Sierra Buttes to the west and Mount Haskell to the east traveling along the old gold highway where we will turn off an nine mile dirt road in the Tahoe National Forest. Eventually will make a stop in the general area of the Bigfoot Kill Zone where Justin Smeja claimed that in 2010 he killed two Bigfoot like creatures. The trail head is somewhat hard to find perhaps primitive in some parts. Edward Haskell believed that the core of the mountain was made of gold at least that is the stories he passed around to others in the 1800's. One of the most successful lucrative gold mines once was in operation on the mountain which boasted a Prospect Tunnel. Anyhow, we would begin our ascension a couple miles through a dense forest which climbed moderately where eventually it would flatten out at a meadow just below its bald summit. Some of the views up here are amazing at the summit as it is the second highest peak in the region definitely not a disappointment for our fans and viewers. Along the way will find some strange tracks and there is even time for us to take a dive in the snow. This first part will take you offroading, to the peak and just below its summit before we descend off the mountain in part two!
