Halloween Event Haunted Mansion Tennessee My Haunted Diary

In October of 2020 we went to a haunted house event at a real haunted mansion. I happened to bring a full spectrum 4k handycam with me and filmed our time there. We were happy to get out and do this after the many months of lockdowns we were all experiencing. The event took place at the Oaklands Mansion in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. They kept a good portion of the mansion in darkness for the event. Luckily Martie took photos that revealed the surroundings with better clarity. A clear and haunting EVP of a child’s voice was captured by the Boys Room upstairs, which in an area where paranormal occurrences have been documented. Some of the staff will tell stories of the supernatural experienced by them and visitors over the years at this place.

Mansion History Lineage
Oaklands Mansion was built by Dr. James Maney and Sally Murfree Maney. Murfree Maney was the daughter of Revolutionary War Col. Hardy Murfree, for whom the town is named. The land Oaklands Mansion stands on, originally 274 acres, was inherited by Murfree Maney in 1815, and the family was shown to be living there by the 1820 census.
Wealthy Memphis widow Elizabeth Swope purchased Oaklands Mansion and the property in 1884. Eventually the property was inherited by her daughter, Tempe, and son-in-law, George Darrow, the first millionaire in Murfreesboro.
In 1912, the Darrows sold the mansion and about 35 acres to Mr. and Mrs R. B. Roberts. Mrs. Roberts sold the home following the death of her husband in 1936 to the Jetton family for a low price due to the Great Depression.
The Jetton family lived at Oaklands for 18 years. Rebekah Jetton, the last surviving Jetton sibling that lived here, moved to a hotel in 1954, leaving the house vacant. It was sold to the city of Murfreesboro in 1958. During these years, the house sat empty and was vandalized and looted. While some viewed the deteriorating mansion as an eyesore, others in the community wanted to preserve it.
In April 1959, a group of concerned local women formed the Oaklands Association, Inc., to save the mansion from demolition. The city agreed to convey the house and 0.3 acres to the association for the purpose of establishing a museum.
Oaklands opened for tours in the early 1960s and is one of Murfreesboro’s most treasured landmarks.
